Perry Milou

Perry Milou"I am constantly looking at the Sky; it is the closest thing to watching GOD paint in the present moment!"

PERRY MILOU is arguably one of the nation's top contemporary pop-impressionist artists. Critics and collectors have hailed his bold, vibrant palette over the past 30 years. Born and bred in Philadelphia, Milou opened his eponymous gallery at 17 NW 36th Street in Miami, Florida in early May 2008. He is the creative vision behind all consulting and commissioned pieces for the space. Milou relocated to Miami seeking to challenge his talents and vision in the booming international art district of Wynwood and in the home of world acclaimed Art Basal.

Milou is a talented forward thinker. His body of work has often been described as "alluring", "brilliant", "glamorous", and "vibrant". Milou is a graduate of the University of Arizona. In 1990 he was the first student ever to convince the Bachelor of Fine Arts program to incorporate an "Open Studio" major. He creates pop and contemporary art that is often a tribute to political figures, sports icons, and notable celebrities. Milou's current style is simply called "Rain": the spontaneous vertical running of his oils. This, partnered with his incorporation of Swarovski Crystals is cutting edge and extremely unique to the artist himself! Milou employs a rich palette to create vibrant representational works in multiple genres. "My aesthetic today is about fantasy". The work is bold, exciting, graphic, in-your-face, with vibrant sensual colors -"Miami colors", says Milou. "I want my work to evoke smiles and happy feelings in an easy way", he continues. His recent "Lover Lip Series" is a collection of large iconic pop oils. Painted in Milou's most recent rain style, he illustrates the "puckers" of such notables as Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot, Angelina Jolie, and Jessica Alba.

Another noteworthy series is his "Vegas Icon Playing Cards"; a deck of ultra pop oils complete with Swarovski crystals and decoupage quoted borders. (See concepts @ perrymilou.com)

MilouIn 2003, in collaboration with the Vincent Van Gogh Retrospective, the world renowned Philadelphia Museum of Art commissioned Milou to create two original oils. He portrayed the museum's famous facades, in a Vincent Van Gogh style with a Milou twist. In 2007 Milou was again commissioned by the Museum to create a portrait of founding father Benjamin Franklin to celebrate his 300th birthday. In addition, the Philadelphia Museum of Art purchased the copyrights of his works in order to produce such popular collectables as t-shirts, coffee cups, and limited edition lithographs. Milou was also selected to participate in the 2007 International Art Show - Art Expo at the Jacob Javitz Center in New York City. Additionally in 2007, Cantor Publishing Group exclusively selected his Marilyn Monroe series for the book, "Marilyn In Art."

Milou is also involved in philanthropic and civic organizations. He is Co-Founder of Philadelphia's Art for ALS and an annual supporter of the Cardiovascular Institute of Philadelphia. He is also involved with the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the Wynwood 36th Street Association, MOCA Shakers, and Gen Art. Most recently, he has collaborated with the Miami Children's Museum to launch a series of fine art workshops called "Palette Kids". These workshops will be held on Saturdays and run through July and August.

Collectors of Milou's work include Sylvester Stallone, Julius Erving, Roy Chapman (owner of the late Smarty Jones), Pennsylvania's Governor Edward Rendell, and attorney James Binns. Perry Milou brings the same enthusiasm and passion that made him a household name in Philadelphia to Miami.
