In the late 80's she founded an extremely successful gallery in Malibu CA, catering to many of Hollywood's biggest names including Michael Bay, Paul Mazlansky, Joan Rivers, Charles Bronson, Janet Jackson etc. By the early 1990's she had made the transition from local gallery owner to national wholesale art distributor and fine art publisher representing many world renown artists like Richard Franklin, Pino, Hessam, Dale Terbush and Schim Schimmel.
By 1997, Cohen moved to South Florida to open a new publishing company that catered to fine art galleries as well as the growing art auction business. This past August, Cohen celebrated her 10 year anniversary of founding MAC Fine Art and has grown the business to a multi-million dollar corporation that is one of the most successful publishing companies in the world. Through MAC Fine Art, Cohen has been credited with the vision of New Media and has pioneered many of today's cutting-edge printmaking techniques including giclee embellishment and 3-D fabrication.
Many of the industries top executives seek Cohen's council for her comprehensive experience in Fine Art Publishing. Most recently, she was asked to administer a 20 million dollar national VIP Fine Art entity, bringing together today's most distinguished masters and prominent collectors; overseeing all aspects of marketing, merchandising, production and administration. This year long project was a major success and sets a new standard for fine art events that dealers will emulate for years to come.
Mary Ann Cohen not only defines the position of Visual Art Entrepreneur but has been at the forefront and the driving force in the development of an impressive list of today's most popular and celebrated Artists.
Alfred Gockel, Scott Jacobs Csaba Markus and Tomasz Rut are but a few of the modern masters who have been profoundly influenced by Cohen. In fact, Rut was an unknown Polish painter until 1997 when he was discovered by Cohen and within two years was credited by the Robb Report as one of the top 5 most collectable artists in the world. Alfred Gockel, a German artist was relatively unknown outside of Europe until 2000 when Cohen discovered him at a New York trade show. Gockel is now widely collected in the United States and was even named one of the official artists for the United States Olympic committee for the 2006 Winter games. His collectors now include Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neil, Andy Roddick, Boyd Tinsley, Cristie Kerr and Rick Barry.
The first artist licensed by Harley, Scott Jacobs was known mainly in the motorcycle world until he met Cohen at The Barrett Jackson Car Auction in Scottsdale, Arizonia. Through Cohen, Scott gained national recognition and became one of the world's premier wine artists, as well as Harley artists. Just recently a documentary about Scott's art, including Cohen's publishing work was the most viewed show on the Speed Channel.
Cohen knew Csaba Markus a dynamic and colorful Hungarian artist for many years but recently collaborated with him to sell over 9,000 of his hand-pulled limited edition artworks to Cohen's largest distributor. Cohen marketed Csaba Markus artwork in over 8 exclusive artist exhibitions including several special artist voyages aboard luxury cruise liners.
Mary Ann Cohenhas collaborated with other successful artists on specific publishing or exhibition projects, some of these major names include such notables as Romero Britto, Peter Max and Red Grooms. Mary Ann Cohen has demonstrated that throughout her professional art career, she has been successful in working with all artists, famous or unknown, from every corner of the world. She has had the vision and experience to take their artistic talents to their highest level while carefully orchestrating commercial success. Cohen is unhappy with the portrayal of the contemporary art world as merely a group of "starving artists" seeking "access".
Cohen's artists are all vibrant, talented and financially successful people and it's not uncommon for her top artists to earn 7 figure incomes. Mary Ann Cohen would welcome the opportunity to present the art world that she knows and loves to the general public so that they can experience the color and vibrancy of today's top artists as well as the intriguing development and marketing of new talent.
Mary Ann's personal life closely parallels her professional success. Her husband of 30 years, Richard, a respected cinematographic special effects producer assists in all her production related projects.
